District nominating committee voting process for District 51

District Nominating Committee Voting Process


All members of the nominating committee have an equal opportunity to express their concerns and opinions in the selection of candidates. The committee chair cannot use his/her position to influence the other committee members. Committee members must exercise their independent judgments with respect to all prospective candidates, having in mind the best interests of Toastmasters International and the district, as well as the experience, abilities and qualifications of prospective candidates.
Nominating ProcessThe nominating committee nominates one or two candidates for each of the offices of district governor and lt. governor education and training. The nominating committee nominates one
or more candidates for the office of lt. governor marketing and all other elective district offices.
Voting
Each member of the nominating committee votes for one or two candidates for the positions of district governor and lt. governor education and training. Each member of the nominating committee then votes for one or more candidates for the office of lt. governor marketing and all other elective district offices. The committee chair votes along with the other committee members for each nomination. The nominating committee must consider all announced candidates for a district. Votes of the committee members must be cast in writing.
Committee Report ~ for District 51 The chair of the nominating committee reports the committee’s results in writing to the district governor no fewer than six weeks (by 18th March 2011) before the district's Annual Business Meeting (29 April 2011). The district governor submits the report in writing to all members of the district council at least four weeks (01st April 2011before the Annual Business Meeting. This may be done in the district newsletter or a separate communication. At the discretion of the district governor, a statement from each nominee outlining their qualifications and abilities to perform the duties of the office may be included with the report. Only candidates nominated by the nominating committee may be included in the report. A district cannot publish the names of floor candidates with the nominating committee report or in any other district publication.
Notifying CandidatesThe chair of the nominating committee or the district governor notifies candidates nominated for office and reconfirms their willingness to be nominated and their commitment to fulfill the duties of office if elected. The chair of the nominating committee or district governor also notifies any candidates who were not nominated and advises them of their eligibility to seek office as floor candidates. Additional qualified candidates may be nominated from the floor at the district’s Annual Business Meeting.

Nominations for Toastmasters to serve District 51 for the term 2011/12 are now open since February 01st as announced by District Governor Thannimalai Letchumanan

Nominations close on Monday, February 21st 2011 at 5.00pm Malaysian Time GMT + 8;
Elections will take place at the DCM on Friday, April 29th 2011 beginning at 2pm at Penang, Malaysia.

NOMINATION FOR DISTRICT 51 OFFICERS TERM 2011-2012

Dear Toastmasters in District 51

Humble and Simple Greetings from the DG's desk.

While we are all geared up to celebrate the Lunar New Year, it is time now for me to CALL for nominations for Toastmasters to serve District 51 in the ensuing term of 2011/12 which commences on 01Jul11 and ends on 30Jun12.

Nominations are sought for the offices of :

1) District Governor;

2) Lieutenant Governor of Education & Training;

3) Lieutenant Governor of Marketing;

4) Division Governors for Divisions A, B, C, G, H, K, M, N, P, Q, S & W;


Salient pointers with regards to the nomination :
  • Ensure your nominee meets the minimum qualification requirements prior to submitting the nomination;
  • Complete the attached Officer Nomination Form and Officer Agreement Release Form as completely as possible and send it to the District Nominating Committee Chairman, IPDG, Ritchie Chong, DTM ( ritchierc@yahoo.com ) deadline of 21Feb2011;
  • A Toastmaster of good standing in D51 may nominate another Toastmaster for an officer's position;
  • All 2011-2012 Term positions listed above are open for nominations. There is no fixed line of succession nor is there an automatic, guaranteed progressions from one office to another;
  • Nominations close on Monday, February 21st 2011 at 5.00pm Malaysian Time GMT + 8;
  • Election of District 51 Officers for the term 2011-2012 will take place at the District Council Meeting on Friday, April 29th 2011 beginning at 2pm at the Bayview Beach Resort, Batu Feringghi, Penang, Malaysia;
  • The positions of District Public Relations Officer, Secretary and Treasurer will be appointed by the Incoming District 51 Governor;
  • The position of Area Governors will be elected at the respective Area Council Meetings as per the past practice in the District;
CALL FOR NOMINATIONS - District Officer Mission, Purpose and Qualifications

Toastmasters International empowers people to achieve their full potential and realize their dreams. Through our member clubs, people throughout the world can improve their communication and leadership skills, giving them the courage to change.

The mission/purpose and qualifications of each elected officers are as follows :


DISTRICT GOVERNOR

As the district's Chief Executive Officer, he/she has the responsibility of directly overseeing and managing the district's day-to-day operations, finances and human resources. Working with a team of district officers in fulfilling these responsibilities. As the district governor, must empower the team to work together to fulfill the district mission , while simultaneously supporting each officer in his/her development as a leader.

At the time of taking office, the district governor must have served at least 6 CONSECUTIVE MONTHs as a CLUB PRESIDENT and at least 12 CONSECUTIVE MONTHS as a Lieutenant Governor, Division Governor or a combination of the two.


LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR EDUCATION AND TRAINING

As the Lieutenant Governor Education and Training, he/she is responsible for all aspects of education and training within the district. This includes supporting quality club programming efforts, promoting the Distinguished Club Program, coordinating the training efforts of the district, and planning and executing the district conference.

The Lieutenant Governor Education and Training must have served at least 6 CONSECUTIVE MONTHS as a CLUB PRESIDENT and at least 12 CONSECUTIVE MONTHS as a lieutenant governor, division governor, area governor or any combination of these.


LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR MARKETING

As the Lieutenant Governor Marketing, he/she is tasked with the responsibility of all aspects of marketing , club-building, and member and club retention efforts within the district. This includes defining an overall marketing strategy for the district, developing outreach and retention efforts with existing community and corporate clubs, and penetrating new markets. Additionally, the lieutenant governor marketing will support challenged clubs and help them to become distinguished clubs.

The Lieutenant Governor Marketing must have served at least 6 CONSECUTIVE MONTHS as a CLUB PRESIDENT and at least 12 CONSECUTIVE MONTHS as a lieutenant governor, division governor, area governor or a combination of these.


DIVISION GOVERNOR

As Division Governor, he/she is to lead and support the division through the supervision and support of the Area Governors. For the division to be successful and implement the district goals, he/she must work closely with the team of Area Governors. To fulfill these goals, as Division Governor, he/she must support the Area Governors assigned under the care. One of the primary goals as the Division Governor is to ensure that each club achieves its mission and fulfills its responsibilities to its members. To achieve this, he/she will have to coordinate activities within the division, set division goals, and assist in the training of area and club officers.

A Division Governor must have served at least 6 CONSECUTIVE MONTHS  as a member of a District Council ( Club President, VPE, Area Governor, District Secretary, District Treasurer or District Public Relations Officer ) and is eligible for re-election for one succeeding term only.
