After passing all his important government examinations in high school and pre-university education, Wong has managed to secure a place in the country's oldest university that's University of Malaya. In 1987, visual disability did not deter him from getting his first degree in Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology & Sociology from the University of Malaya.
In his continuous efforts to develop himself further, he pursued a certificate programme in public relations at the Institute of Public Relations, Malaysia (IPRM) and in 1988 Wong emerged and won the best student award in the programme.
As the quest for knowledge was still burning, Wong made up his mind to pursue his second degree in Master of Arts majoring in Urban Anthropology and visual impairment again did not stop him from obtaining the degree with straight passes in 1992 from the University of Malaya. While pursuing his Master of Arts Degree, Wong was offered a post as a tutor at the university for two years.

Toastmasters International 85th Anniversary
Fellow Toastmasters,
Happy Anniversary!
October 22 is an auspicious date for Toastmasters around the world. It marks the day that a small group of people, led by Dr. Ralph C. Smedley, held the first official Toastmasters meeting in the basement of a YMCA in Santa Ana, California, USA.
While the original intent of the group was to teach after-dinner speeches to young men, as we all know, Toastmasters has evolved to become a worldwide leader in communication and leadership development. This evolution was no accident; Dr. Smedley firmly believed that the improvement of a person's ability to communicate his or her ideas was a means of improving life in all its phases, personal as well as professional. It's a philosophy that resonates as clearly today as it did back in 1924.
Since its founding, Toastmasters International has empowered more than 4 million people to achieve their full potential and realize their dreams. Our organization's long-term success and growth is a tribute to Dr. Smedley's vision. He understood that communication isn't optional and leadership isn't always natural, but both can be learned through doing.
As we celebrate our 85th anniversary, the organization stands at a historic high point. Our membership is at an all-time high of 252,000 and growing, our programs are more expansive and our leaders have developed innovative strategies to keep up with advances and shifting cultural dynamics of the global age.
The next 85 years hold even greater promise as we continue to adapt and evolve in an ever-changing world. Let us work together to build our organization by building our members -- with confidence, leadership and service.
Thank you for all you do to support and serve Toastmasters.
Sincerely,
Gary Schmidt, DTM
International President 2009/2010

The New Toastmasters Term Begin 2009/2010
You were born to be significant. As you begin the term 2009-2010 on July 01st 2009 within your club under the leadership of your Club President and the new executive committee, you will have the one opportunity to transform yourself and the club in which you are a member.
You can choose to be a volunteer and yet still shape your world to your specifications, or you can be a victim and let circumstances dictate your design. You can choose to ensure your significance in your club even if it is only for a term. You don't have to wait until much of your life is past before thinking about the legacy that you leave. The earlier you begin to participate meaningfully within your club, area, division and beyond, the greater the impact you make on your own world and of course your club.
It is determined by what you do and why you do it. In your club activities, the one year term is short when measured by the things you can do with it. The challenge, then, is to choose your actions and activities meaningfully.
Every moment you give to insignificance diminishes your significance.
You can also achieve significant by completing an educational award as in Competent Communicator or an Advanced Communicator award or the Leadership award. The significance of completing this challenging task will ensure your club of achieving the educational goals, support your club meeting and help to attain the minimum Distinguished Club status for the coming term.
Introducing this program to people at your workplace or community is another very significant thing you can do. By doing so, you will witness how they will speak their way to magical transformation.
You were born to be significant, and your support to your home club is invaluable. Use the opportunity to transform yourself through the world’s leading organization in communication and leadership training within your club and beyond.
As you embark on another new term and journey in your Toastmasters world,
I know that you will gain the confidence and leadership to serve your club and our district.
Toastmasters: Speaking Your Way to Magical Transformation
Yours in Toastmasters,
